  SECTIONS

The cosplay competition is broken down in three sections:

1. Individual cosplay – will take place Saturday

2. Group cosplay – will take place Sunday

3. Promising cosplayers – will also take place Saturday; this section differs from Individual cosplay through the following:

    • The costumes can be made by the participants but are in an unfinished state
    • The costumes can be bought
    • The skit will have a generic soundtrack (such as a cosplay showcase)
    • Marks will be given for the resemblance to the character and roleplay

  JUDGING

1. Individual cosplay – marks will be given thusly:

  • Costumes 50%: costume quality, costume complexity, wig styling, make-up, character resemblance. Judging will take place Saturday, before going on stage.
  • Roleplay 50%: roleplaying as the character. Marks will be given for: facial expression, gestures (if it is the case), body posture/posing, body movements. The complexity of the skit will help in case of equal score among more contestants.

2. Group cosplay – in this section, marks will be given according to the complexity of the skit, originality, the actual story, adapting of the story to the characters involved. All participants must have a minimal wardrobe.

3. Promising cosplayers – marks will be given only according to the character resemblance (costume, make-up etc.) and roleplay

4. By participating in the competition you agree with the following:

  • The final marks given by the judges are irrevocable and indisputable
  • Any uncivilized behavior will be penalized and may even lead to being prohibited from further participation in competitions organized by Nijikon

  CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION

1. Both Romanians and foreigners can participate in all three sections

2. Participants can be of any age; participants below 18 years of age must be escorted by an adult or parent who will sign on the registration form for those they are responsible for

3. Costume policy

  • To be able to participate in the Individual cosplay competition – The costumes MUST be made unprofessionally. By unprofessionally, we understand a costume made by the participant or a family member, with the help of the participant. Access with a bought or commissioned costume is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. The only exceptions will be made for costumes that have SOME accessories or pieces bought, under the condition that the largest part of the costume be made manually. It is very important that you keep in mind, however, this will affect your final score.
  • Very simple costumes (that you can find in day-to-day life, like Doctor Who, L etc.) will be allowed. Keep in mind, however, that you will be at a disadvantage compared to participants with more elaborate costumes and this will be reflected in your final score.
  • For the Group cosplay and Promising cosplayers sections you will be allowed with bought or commissioned costumes.
  • Costumes from any source will be allowed as long as they are complex/distinct enough to be worthy of a cosplay competition. Crossover costumes (inspired by more characters) will be allowed, as long as they abide by the rules and the judges have detailed explanations of the sources during judging.
  • The costumes must present a minimum level of decency. As Nijikon receives visitors of all ages, both the costumes and the skits must be fit for a general audience. Meaning, the least one can wear can be a bathing suit. Thongs, transparent or tiny lingerie, will have to be covered by a cloak, shorts, skirt, dress etc.

4. Weapon policy

We must abide by the law and thus impose certain limits when it comes to accessories allowed during the competition:

  • Swords, knives, shuriken etc.: They will be made, as much as possible, from non-metallic materials. In certain situations, metallic ones will be allowed but it is mandatory that they be kept in their sheaths and not shown in public (exception being the skit on stage). It is mandatory that metallic objects not have sharp blades (they must be blunted) or tips (these must be rounded; this also applies in the case of other materials used for manufacturing).
  • Bows and arrows: The bows must not have strings and the arrows must not have tips. Guns and other firearm imitations must have a yellow or orange circle on the tip of the barrel, indicating they are fake. However, be careful when leaving the premises with these weapons, you may have problems with the police. No type of ammunition is allowed (darts, beads, nerf bullets etc.)
  • Metal chains longer than 20 cm are not allowed. If they are longer, they must be made out of plastic or other materials.

5. The skits

  • The entire dialog (if it exists) must be prerecorded. We will not provide a microphone.
  • They must show at least a modicum of decency. Any obscene or overtly sexualized gestures or dances have no place on stage. Exhibitionism will not be tolerated. Try and respect the public and yourselves. Double entendre jokes must have their non-sexual meaning be at least as obvious as the sexual one. If, during rehearsals, one particluar scene will be found incompatible with the rules, said section will be removed from the skit or the group will be removed from the contest. This includes yaoi/yuri undertones.
  • It's possible special lighting can be provided, but don't base your skit around it. Rather than prepare for a certain type of lighting and find that it can't be provided, it's better to skip it altogether.
  • Access on stage with firecrackers, fireworks, pyrotechnics and other things that can endanger the contest will not be permitted.
  • Props brought by the cosplayer will be admitted as long as they are not excessively large, heavy and won't make damage.
  • We can't guarantee any type of furniture. Take this into consideration when developing your skit.
  • Jumping off-stage, running in the public or any other stunts that can harm the contestant or the viewers are strictly prohibited.

    3. A few pictures takne during the process of making the costume, in various stages of completion. If the group makeup has changed in the meantime, mention it to the organizers on the day you pick up the badges.
